The Bootbouwschool is a small organisation, essentially one person plus an occasional intern. Plus a spectrum of volunteers. One fellow, Richard, turned up yesterday and helped with getting all eight pieces of the mast together. Today he turned up and said he had to show me something.

There is even space for the foot inside it.

So he pulls out a matchbox, slides it open to reveal a wad of cotton wool and the end of a stub of pencil. Then I see it. This tiny little shoe. It is even hollowed out for the foot to fit inside.

He says it was three hours of an evening. Which is pretty quick compared to Dalton Ghetti, who has developed a similar ouvre.

Amazing stuff. Such tiny details. And the patience.
