As part of the CoC project, we were asked to use the tools at Julies Bicycle to calculate our CO2 load. Almost a year after the event, we have finally done this. I am not sure if it is shocking or wonderful.

The results:

  • Murray river: includes two flights to Australia, Greer and Pix coming by bus, Scout and Nick visiting by car as wel as the delivery and pickups: 3.1 tonnes of CO2
  • Danube river: includes 2 flights back from Australia, pickups and transport of the Subak: 2.8 Tonnes
  • Belgian canals: included driving to deliver as well as 4 train trips for Michka and Marthe: 508 kg

Summary: Flying is the worst thing we can do. I wonder what the carbon load of riding on a cargo ship is?
